Ok so the last letter is a BIG one!

Motivation!

Motivating your clients sounds like it is something that is so basic that I shouldn’t even need to mention it.

But motivation comes in many diffeent shapes and sizes and learning WHEN and HOW to motivate your clients is really the key.

Now I am not necessarily talking about the typical “Come on 2 more reps” type motivation that you do with your clients every session.

Pushing them in the gym and getting them to do more reps and/or more weight is great!

They would never push themselves like that without you so keep doing it!

I am really talking about motivating your clients to achieve the things they dont think they can achieve!

A lot of people dont BELIEVE that they can reach their fitness goals.

I mean down deep inside they really doubt that they can lose 20 or 30 pounds, or they doubt that they can fit into the clothes they used to wear.

Motivate them and MAKE THEN A BELIEVER!

When your client truly believes that they can achieve their goal your job becomes a lot easier.

You can bet your last dollar that their will be obstacles to overcome on your way to reaching those goals.

This is where your motivation comes into play.

Calling your clients out of the blue to see how they are doing on their diet is not only a great motivator but the client feels almost obligated to stay true to their diet!

So what do you do when a client comes in after a weekend a tells you they fell off the wagon and cheated on their diet?

Most trainers I see usually say something like “Oh its ok just try a little harder this week”.

What a WEAK and UN-MOTIVATING response.

If it was the first time MAYBE you shouldnt make a big deal about it but most of the time I make a HUGE deal out of it.

Why?

Because the client is paying ME very good money to get THEM results.

I cant do this if THEY CHEAT on their diet!

When a client signs up with me we have a very specific goal and a very specific time frame that we set.

To get them to refocus I need to motivate them again and often have them visualize the end result.

I tell them they can do anything they set their mind to and 8 weeks is a short time to commit to something that is so life changing.

This usually does the trick and gets them back on the program.

Often times people just need to know and hear that someone has faith in them and when they do great things are right around the corner!

Learn to motivate clients because the end result is worth the effort for both of you!
