Well first things first.

We are still getting leads from our postcard marketing I mentioned a few days ago.

Once we get the final results I will post all of the juicy details…this mailer worked for sure!

Tonight we did something else we do quite often to generate new personal training clients and leads and that is doing seminars.

I my Ebook I go over this but let me tell you how easy this one was.

One on our new clients (a referral from a happy existing client of course!) is on the board at one of the large country club communities in our area.

We simply asked him if that had meetings where residents of the community came together to discuss topics related to their neighborhood.

He said “sure we do” so we asked if they might be interested in have us come and give a FREE seminar about health and fitness.

He was more than happy to set the entire thing up for us.

He told all the board members about the idea and they all loved it.

So much so that they put us in their newsletter that goes out to the entire community!

WooooHoooo FREE ADVERTISING!

Tonight we did that seminar and had 47 people show up.

We talked about nutrition and fitness and had a good time.

More importantly though…we captured leads!

We had each person fill out a raffle form with their name, phone number and email address.

For the raffle we gave away some shaker bottles, t-shirts (with our studio and phone number on them) and

2 small personal training packages.

They can use these small packages themselves or even give them away as a gift.

So for our time and a few small give always we now have the name, phone number and email of 47 people we didnt have yesterday.

If only 1 of those people sign up to train with us we will have made all of our money back and then some.

I track the stats of everything we do and usually we get about 10% of the people who attend the seminar to sign up for training.

So that is potentially over $4,000 in NEW personal training business we brought in tonight by doing something anyone of you can do!

Be on the lookout for ways you can get in front of a large group of people and just educate them about what you love…health and fitness…and the money isnt far behind!

Hey guys!

Here is a great article from a lady who knows the ins and outs of starting and marketing your own FITNESS BOOTCAMPS.

Her name is Georgette Pann and she has written a great article for those of you that are interested in making your FITNESS BOOTCAMPS a huge success!

*******************************************************************************************************************

The Bottom Line on Fitness Boot Camps

The fastest way to attract new clients and collect plenty of profits for your fitness business is with a new program. But what? You don’t want to put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into a fast-dying fad or a program that attracts a limited target market because your profits will dry up quickly. Your solution: Fitness boot camps.

Boot camps appeal to a large range of people because just about anyone can do the exercises. And they escape the women-only stigma of aerobics and the men-only stigma of weight lifting.

Influenced by traditional military boot camps, these fitness programs are so popular because they work— when they’re done right—and because of their social element. Boot camp participants enjoy the camaraderie of exercising in a group. And much like peer pressure keeps soldiers moving in military boot camp, peer encouragement – and developing friendships - keep people moving in fitness boot camp.

Plus, more experienced participants often help newcomers, which provides an element of support that the trainer alone cannot give. Here are other major ways that fitness boot camps benefit you and your clients.

Boot Camp Benefits for You

If you don’t offer a boot camp as part of your fitness business, you’re missing out on serious dollars. Fiscally speaking, boot camps are a no-brainer. Compared with aerobics, weight lifting, Spinning, treadmill workouts or in-home training, boot camps are a virtual money mill. Here’s why:

They are an efficient use of your time. As the trainer, you typically handle large groups of people at once. Class sizes range from 20 to more than 50 people, so you can afford to charge less per person, which means a greater potential for plenty of people to sign up. Look at it this way: If you were to charge $10 per person for each session, and you had an average class size of 20 people, you’d collect $200 for a one-hour session. It’s hard to charge that much for a one-on-one training session!

Boot camps help you make money, but they also save you money because there are no overhead costs. You could hold your program in parks, school gymnasiums, parking lots, parking garages, or any place you can fit your class; you don’t need a studio or facility. You can arrange for a typical boot camp location for little or no money. If you’re planning to use a public park for a group boot camp, be sure to make any necessary reservations with park officials.Of course, if you already have a studio or facility, boot camp classes will make that space especially cost-effective.

The fact that you don’t need a lot of equipment to run a boot camp means you reduce your expenses even further. Bodyweight exercises, such as pushups and sit-ups, form the core of most boot camp programs. Even if you decide to include dumbbells or resistance bands, you can pass that expense onto clients as a one-time fee. Or, you could have your business logo and contact info imprinted on the equipment to further promote your business and write it off at tax time.

Boot Camp Benefits for Clients

There are two main aspects that keep clients coming back to boot camp programs time after time: these programs are effective and fun.

Let’s tackle the effectiveness part first. As you know, the key to weight loss, which is what the majority of boot campers are looking for, is burning calories. Boot camps cram a lot of exercise and calorie-burning into a short time. Clients don’t have to fool around with working out for 90 minutes to 2 hours every day. Forty-five minutes, boot-camp-style, is enough. Plus, participants benefit from higher metabolism for the rest of the day, which means they burn more calories for longer.

And unlike many Nautilus and weight lifting programs that isolate only a few muscles, boot camp movements - such as pushups, pull-ups, jumping jacks and running – recruit many muscles in every exercise. So, instead of doing 3 sets on every machine in the gym, boot camp participants get the job done much more efficiently.

Besides their effectiveness, boot camps appeal to people because of the fun and social factors. Sure, Denise Austin or Jake Steinfeld videos are motivating—but video workouts are very impersonal, and the motivation often lasts only for the first week or so.

With a boot camp, participants get personal motivation from their trainer that is fresh and new every session. Boot camp trainers can also correct exercise form and postures for clients to keep them safe and get the most from the exercises. A video can’t do that.

The bottom line is that boot camps make your bottom line look better. They are an efficient and profitable way to attract more clients and deliver effective fitness to more people. Adding a fitness boot camp to your programming reinforces your image as an effective, affordable fitness professional.

More training clients come easy…if you let them!

Here is a follow up on my last post about how I landed a new client while at the bookstore.

Face to Face marketing is my absolute favorite way to generate new personal training clients!

It is my favorite strategy for a few reasons

It is very EASY

It doesnt cost you anything

You can do it almost everyday

and IT WORkS!

So I am sitting in the coffee shop at our local bookstore enjoying my iced tea when I overhear 2 women sitting behind me talking about gaining weight and needing to workout.

How much easier can it get?

They NEED to lose weight and WANT to start working out!

Well I get people in shape and help them lose weight by working out!

What a perfect match!

But what happens from here is where it gets important!

You wanna know WHY most trainers struggle?

The honest reason?

THEY SIMPLY ARENT AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH!

Most trainers arent aggressive at all with their marketing!

Most trainers wouldnt even approach them after overhearing this conversation!

Why?

Scared of rejection perhaps.

Not me though!

I aint scerd……………………lol!

I turned around and introduced myself as they noticed my shirt that says “PERSONAL TRAINER” on it.

After a few questions and some small talk one of the ladies asked me for my business card.

But you know what…I DIDNT GIVE IT TO HER!

Why?

I wanted her to come in for a consultation and didnt want her to wait another day so I pressed the issue!

I was AGGRESSIVE!

i WAS NOT pushy or rude…but aggressive!

I remind her of what she said early…she gained weight and NEEDED to lose weight.

I then told her I had an opening in my schedule for later that day and she agreed to come in.

I then asked for her business card and told her I would call in a bit to confirm.

I did this to see how committed she was to coming in…if she wasnt willing to give me her card I could pretty much assume she wouldnt show up.

She gave me her card and ended up coming in later that same day and signed up for 2 months worth of training sessions.

Face to Face marketing is a very powerful strategy…IF YOU USE IT!

GET AGGRESSIVE AND GO GET MORE CLIENTS!

More personal training clients…5 today actually!

Well this month were are getting NEW personal training clients from our ongoing marketing efforts!

My post last week about my 2 new clients at lunch time and then today we signed up 5 new personal training clients!

Yes 5!

The day after the holiday and we were busy as hell for some reason!

So our NEW personal training clients came from:

1 was a referral from a very happy existing client

1 was from “face to face” marketing at Barnes and Noble today

3 were internet leads that called, came in and signed up…all today!

The “face to face” client was one that I generated so I will write more about that later.

The referral was a lay up since the other client is getting great results.

The 3 internet leads were actually interesting because they all found us using different methods.

But that shows me that our marketing is doing what it is supposed to do…generate leads for us like clock work!

Is your marketing working for you?

I hope it is and hope your month is off to a great start as well!

Thats right!

2 New Personal Training Clients and a nice unexpected paycheck during lunch!

Can it really be as easy as I say it is to get new personal training clients?

Of course it can!

And it is if you BELIEVE it is!

So if you follow this blog you should know by now that I like to work out at gyms near our studio just for a change of pace and to see what is going on around us.

So today during lunch time I went over to work out at a small club that only has independent trainers working there and no trainers on staff.

As I am finishing my back workout I look over and notice a older (late 50’s) couple ATTEMPTING to do a seated row right next to me.

They are looking at the diagram that is posted on the machine and begin to try to do the exercise as shown.

“Does this look right?” the man say to his wife.

“I guess so” she says.

After he is done she sits down and also tries to do the exercise as shown but doesnt really come anywhere close!

Now I know most personal trainers would do.

They would see this going on and DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!

Their excuses would get in the way of the signing up 2 new clients!

You see I LOVE situations like this!

Not even for the potential new business I could generate but more so for the opportunity to HELP someone that really needs it!

After I watched them do their next set I walked closer and introduced myself.

I told them I was a personal trainer and I offered to give them a few pointers on the exercise they were doing.

I did this to HELP them when it was obvious they needed it!

They were extremely pleased that I offered to help.

When I was finished I made sure they were doing it right and let them get back to their workout.

A few minutes later the husband approached me and asked how much I charged for training.

HE ASKED ME!

I didnt even attempt to “sell” him anything but now he was asking me about personal training.

I explained that I did not work at this gym and his reply was “I didnt think so…these guys arent that good”.

I then told him where our studio was and asked when he wanted to come by to talk about his goals and how I could help him.

He then asked if I was going back to the studio now because they would just follow me!

Does it get any better than this?

In all honesty I had some errands to run but they can wait!

You are damn right I am going back to the studio now!

We left the gym and they followed me to the studio were I sat with the husband and wife a determined a good program for them based on their goals.

After the consultation as I was standing up to get my schedule book the husband says “so when do we pay…now?”

I told him he could wait until after the first session was completed but he says “I would rather just pay you now FOR BOTH OF US“!

Sweet!

They will be working out together 3 times a week for 8 weeks!

Hmmm…lets see thats 24 sessions X $100 (we charge $70 per session and 1/2 for the second person if they train together so I just rounded it)…that equals $2400 in my book!

$2400 and 2 new Personal Training clients for just offering to help them while they did a seated row!

My return on invested time is alreay out of this world but what if they become “regulars” and train with me for years like some of my clients?

Sick just SICK RETURNS!

Is it ALWAYS this easy?

Of course not!

Is it this easy more often that you think it is?

I bet it is!

Remeber what I said earlier?

Its this easy if you BELIEVE IT IS…

Whether you BELIEVE it is or not is up to you but you know what?

Either way…you are right!

One of the easiest ways to determine if what you are doing is professional or not is to look at it from your clients point of view.

Think of it this way…

If you were paying $50-$75 per session for a package of 10 or 20 sessions ($500-$1500 total) how would you want the person YOU were hiring to act?

$1500 is good money no matter where you are located!

If YOU were spending that kind of money wouldnt you want to MOST professional trainer and service you could find?

Would YOU expect anything less for that kind of money?

If you really really wanted to learn how to GOLF and you hired a golf pro to teach you how to swing a club and eventually become a good golfer what would your expectations be?

Would it be OK with YOU if the pro was late to your sessions?

What if he had his shirt untucked and it had stains on it?

What if he answered his cell phone or chatted with other players constantly as you were trying to learn?

Remember it cost you about $1500 to hire this “pro”!

How would YOU feel after you spent all this money?

I tell you how would feel…PISSED!

Could some of your personal training clients feel this way?

Give your personal training clients everything the deserve and PAY for and make it a point to make them seem like the ONLY person in the gym!

Do let ANYTHING distract you!

Phone calls, other trainers, the girl in the spandex leaving the aerobics room..it shouldnt matter!

When clients feel special and get the results that they pay for your renewals will come easier than you can imagine!

More Personal Trainer blunders….

Well I was trying to come up with my next post for this blog and then it HIT me!

Well it almost walked into me really.

Some things that I see personal trainers do really really confuse me.

Like today when I was working out at yet another gym in our area.

As I was entering the gym I was walking by the personal training offices when I saw what appeared to be a client waiting patiently near the door.

It was just after NOON just I figured he had a 12:00pm appointment.

I continued to watch as I began and finished my 8 minute warmup.

The client was now pacing back and forth when finally one of the trainers can out of his office.

As he walked on to the gym floor I noticed the probable reason for his tardiness.

He was still chewing his lunch and washing it down with a REDLINE as he quickly approached the client that was waiting for him.

He attempted to tell the client what to do next but was still chewing so he had to wait until he finished.

As they both looked at the clock it was now about 15 after 12 and the trainer walked with the client over to the treadmill for his warm up.

He then truly AMAZED ME!

As the client is warming up he pulls a protein bar out of his pocket and begins to scarf it down right in front of the client and everyone else in the gym.

AMAZING!

Talk about unprofessional!

I have always attempted to put myself in the clients shoes.

If I was that client do think I would have been happy?

Well would you?

I didnt think so.

It is the little things that make up the bigger picture.

Anyone can be a personal trainer.

They are a dime a dozen.

The true PROFESSIONAL Personal Trainers are much harder to come by.

And trust me, thats a VERY profitable thing for those of us that are!
